Thru-Hikers Enjoy Jersey Delights, Face Medical Emergency
A group of thru-hikers on the Appalachian Trail experienced the best of New Jersey, from glacial lakes to homemade ice cream, but also faced a medical emergency that required an ER visit.

A group of thru-hikers on the Appalachian Trail has been enjoying the scenic beauty of New Jersey, but their adventure took a serious turn when one of the hikers fell ill.
The group, which includes Loon, Singe, and others, has been documenting their journey on the trail. They began their New Jersey section with a visit to Hot Dog Johnnys and a hike through the lovely Sunfish Pond, a glacial lake in the Delaware Water Gap.
The group spent their first night in New Jersey at the AMC Mohican Outdoor Center, where they enjoyed the beautiful lake and paddle boards to rent. However, a huge storm rolled in, causing damage to several trail towns and leaving the group without power.
Despite the challenges, the group was grateful to have shelter at the MOC and enjoyed homemade ice cream. They also met a SOBO hiker who joined them for a day, and together they hiked a big day and took a lake break to swim.
However, the next day, Singe fell ill with severe stomach pains, and the group decided to evacuate her to the ER in Port Jervis. The results were inconclusive, but at least there was nothing severely wrong.
Singe and the author spent the morning in the ER, and then they got an Uber to the laundromat and walked to a hotel on Main Street, where they rested and watched TV. The group had already made plans to sidequest to NYC together, and they were able to keep those plans.
The group arrived in NYC on a bus from Warwick, and they met up with Singe outside of the theater for Schmigadoon. They also enjoyed a fun experience at the Warwick Drive In, where they watched movies and bowled.
The group's experience in New Jersey was a mix of scenic beauty and medical emergency, but they were grateful for the support of their trail angel and the opportunity to enjoy the city.
